Chapter Six

Two weeks. It had been two freaking weeks—and she was hopelessly, crazy in love with both men.

Yet, neither seemed any more inclined to move their relationship to the next level. Gah, what was a girl to do?

She looked at her watch and realized Ailis would be working at Pat’s. She was the closest thing Wren had to a sister, and she called the other woman before chickening out. Her new cell phone had arrived two days after she’d lost the last one in the wreck. Replacing her totaled car was taking longer, but luckily the guys had a loaner they’d said she could drive. She never did figure out where the phone had gone, but the tow company said with the rain and the way the car had fallen, it could have slipped farther down the hill. The thought of all her pictures being lost was the only thing that truly bothered her.

The phone rang a few times, making her think the other woman wasn’t going to answer.

“Hello,” Ailis said.

She sucked in a breath. “Hey, are you busy this afternoon? I need an ear.”

There was a pause, then Ailis came back. “You know I’m always available. What’s up?”

“Can I come down to the bar and talk with you? I need to get out for a bit.” That was putting it mildly. The only places she’d been since her accident had been to watch the guys practice, and class.

She’d had to quit her job as a bartender at the strip club, since she couldn’t lift bottles and do the fancy mixing she was known for due to her wrist, plus driving had been out for the first seven to ten days after her concussion. Her boss at Diamond Dolls hadn’t cared. Sure, he’d told her to come see him when she was better and he’d have a job for her, but she knew what that job would be. Stripping was a fine profession for some, but she wasn’t cut out for it.

Her guys had just finished spring training before her accident—her mind already referred to both Alex and Van as hers—and were now gearing up for baseball season. She was down to finals, and then she’d be done with school. And she hadn’t gone to school for the last seven years to get a degree in sports medicine, only to become a stripper. Nope, not today, Satan. Not today.

“Did you hear me, Wren?” Ailis asked.

“Sorry, I was thinking.” She took a drink of water.

Ailis sighed. “You need to quit thinking so much. I swear, you’re one of the dumbest smart women I know.”

Wren narrowed her eyes, pulling the phone away from her ear and glaring at it. “What do you mean?”

“Just get your bum down here and we’ll talk and have a drink. Tell your guys to come down when they get done with practice.” Ailis hung up.

She’d told her friend all about the two men who’d saved her, but she was sure she’d not told her about their...unusual setup.
